 We are looking for the right individual to join our fabulous client as Director of Finance to assist them on their journey to legendary. 

 MAKR is a group of…well…MAKRs and their purpose, their common goal, their passion, is to connect communities through play and social experiences. The MAKR Group comprises three brands:

●   Parkworks: On-the-ground public recreation space specialists for Western Canada

●  Waterplay: Splash pad and water park equipment manufacturer and supplier

●  Wekid: Steel fabrication specialists

Reporting to the VP, Finance and Administration, the Director of Finance joins a great team, that works within the leadership team to oversee the MAKR Group of Companies’ business operations, people, partnerships, and financial reporting requirements. This role is responsible for safeguarding, allocating, and investing corporate resources to effectively achieve management goals and objectives.

 You possess a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA,) have a minimum of eight years of full cycle accounting experience and bring a strategic mindset to your work. Previous experience within a manufacturing environment is strongly desired. 

 What you’ll do in a day, a week, a year:

  • Lead a team comprised of a financial controller, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and management accountants

  • Maintain standard cost in ERP system

  • Develop, track and communicate relevant financial and non-financial metrics to convey company performance internally

  • Retain constant awareness of the company’s financial position and act to mitigate risk prevent problems and harness opportunities

  • Prepare monthly analytical review of Gross Profit and recommendations as to levers for improvement

  • Contribute to, and lead elements of, budget preparation and final review

  • Support the development of the strategic plan

  • Primary company representative for auditors; work closely with auditors and tax advisers to ensure all regulatory requirements are met

  • Manage insurance program and be primary company contact with insurance brokers 

  • Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis

  • Overview of GST, PST and other government remittances (including US federal & state withholding taxes)

 What’s on your resume (and what your references will confirm you’re really good at):

  • Proven leader with exceptional communication, collaboration and team development skills

  • Financial leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; ideally in a metal fabrication organization

  • CPA designation

  • Strong business acumen beyond just the numbers

  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong understanding of corporate finance, GAAP and measures of performance

  • Detailed understanding of costing

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering and communicating timely and accurate financial results

  • Strong ability to present information to executives and other team members

  • Ability to engage in critical thinking to solve problems, address inefficiencies, establish internal controls and refine company procedures

  • High attention to detail

  • Proven analytical/technical focus

  • Expertise in Canadian and US Tax legislation

  • Drive for positive change and automation
